Our Story
Our journey began in the year 2020, during a time of global crisis, when our founder, La’Kisha Clarke, decided to make a difference in the lives of young people. Highly creative and passionate about entrepreneurship and skill development, La’Kisha had always enjoyed sharing her love for these skills with the youth in her community.

We’re proud to share that Kids Sew Genius Foundation has had a national impact, providing clothes and resources to over 5,200 youth and families around the United States. Through our dedicated efforts and the support of our generous donors and partners, we have been able to reach out to communities far and wide, ensuring that youth and young people have access to the essentials they need for a brighter future.
Our commitment to empowering youth goes beyond borders. We understand that all youth, regardless of their geographic location, deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed. By providing clothes, resources, and support, we aim to level the playing field and create a more equitable world for all.
From clothing closets filled with professional attire for high school students to school essentials programs that equip students with backpacks, supplies, and hygiene items, our initiatives have made a tangible difference in the lives of youth. We believe that when young people have the necessary tools and resources, they can focus on their education, personal growth, and development.
As we continue to expand our reach and impact, we remain committed to our vision of empowering the youth and creating a brighter future for all. We are grateful to each and every individual who has contributed to our mission, helping us make a positive change in the lives of them around the world.
How We Got Started
Living in a neighborhood plagued by criminal activity, La’Kisha saw an opportunity to provide a constructive alternative for the youth. She taught them valuable sewing and crafting skills, offering them a positive outlet and a way to express their creativity. Out of her own pockets, she supplied the necessary materials, ensuring that the youth had access to the tools they needed to learn and grow.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, La’Kisha’s creativity and compassion shone brightly. She took on the task of making over 1,400 masks, which were distributed to hospitals, schools, daycares, front-line workers, and government employees. This act of selflessness demonstrated her commitment to serving her community and protecting those in need during a time of crisis.
As she continued working with the youth, La’Kisha realized that these sewing and crafting sessions held the potential for something more significant. They were not just positive distractions; they had the power to shape lives and provide a path away from the troubles that often plagued the neighborhood. She doesn’t just want to keep them busy, she wants to give them an opportunity to learn a lucrative skill.
Motivated by her experiences and determined to make a lasting impact, La’Kisha founded the Kids Sew Genius Foundation. She became an advocate for youth, using her foundation as a platform to provide support, guidance, and opportunities for youth to express themselves and develop important life skills.
La’Kisha’s personal journey has shaped her passion for helping young people avoid the mistakes she made as a troubled teen. She openly shares her story with youth and young adults, urging them to consider the consequences before making life-altering decisions. Her experiences serve as a powerful reminder of the potential for change and the importance of finding positive outlets and support systems.
